Understanding the laser.

So we’ve started playing around with acrylic, ceramic tiles, various woods amongst other mediums.

One of the first things is to develop a library of test burns with your laser on different mediums. It shows the results of a combination of two settings – speed and power. That way you can develop a good idea of of what the variations of settings will produce on a given medium.

The tile above is a perfect example. It has been found that placing a layer of Titanium Oxide (commonly found in white paint) over the tile and then ‘zapping’ it with a laser burns the Titanium Oxide into the tile creating a wonderful black and white image.

We will be posting more on this as we progress and also adding educational sheets to our knowledge-base as well.
